The story of Murray Forestry began in 1968, when 17 year old J.W. Murray went to work loading shortwood pulpwood by hand in Surrency, Georgia. Five years later, through hard work, determination, and a growing knowledge of the timber industry, he founded Murray Forestry.

What began as a small South Georgia logging operation grew alongside the Murray family. J.W.'s three sons Jerome, Jessie, and Jerry all grew up working with their father in the woods, learning the business firsthand and helping expand the operation for the next generation.

Over the decades, Murray Forestry developed lasting relationships with landowners, mills, and forest-products companies throughout the region while expanding its capabilities in timber harvesting, land management, road construction, and related services.

In 2004, those decades of dedication were recognized when the Georgia Forestry Association named Murray Forestry of Surrency its Logger of the Year for its positive impact on Georgia's logging industry.
